Back to Darius I, King of Persia

By brother Bill found genealogies extending back from William I of Orange count of Toulouse (b. 765; some source: b 755) going back through documented lines of Persian kings. Of all literature and documentation, king lists were always preserved and held to be very important. Itís most likely that these lines are a matter of established historical fact. Iíve preserved each ancestorís link if the one wants to see the original page. I stopped at Darius I King of Persia, but it be tracked further back.

Darius I: king of ancient Persia, whose reign lasted from 522 BC to 486 BC. He seized power after killing king Gaum‚ta, fought a civil war (described in the Behistun inscription), and was finally able to refound the Achaemenid empire, which had been very loosely organized until then. Darius fought several foreign wars, which brought him to India and Thrace. When he died, the Persian empire had reached its largest extent. He was succeeded by his son Xerxes.
