Four Ahau Press was begun in 1989
to publish research and new perspectives relating to the cosmology of indigenous
Mesoamerican cultures. Check out the Summary of Four
Ahau Press publications, a site which includes substantial excerpts. Four Ahau
Press has been a venue primarily for the work of independent researcher John
Major Jenkins. "Four Ahau" was the first day of the current 13-baktun era
of the Maya Long Count calendar, back in 3114 B.C.; it is also the last day,
December 21st, 2012 A.D. The astronomical alignment
which occurs on the end date in 2012 A.D. is perhaps the most intriguing material
that I presently have to offer - this is cutting edge stuff. However, there
is plenty more covering a wide range of interests. You may prefer to move right
to the Index of Documents I have available for viewing
on this site. Most research with the Maya calendar hinges upon the correlation
question - that is, the question of how the Mayan calendar system correlates
with our Gregorian calendar. Surprisingly, there is still some academic
confusion on this question.
Visitors new to the study of the Mayan Calendar should first check out the introduction to the Mayan Calendar; this is an excerpt from my book "Tzolkin: Visionary Perspectives and Calendar Studies" (Borderlands Science and Research Foundation, 1994). One can easily find out what day it is today by consulting the day-to-day calendars in this book, running from 1994 to 2013. My discussion of the technical difficulties with Jose Arguelles' Dreamspell game should clarify some things (in that realm), but most of all, I would suggest all visitors peruse the Index of Documents and explore the vast possibilities within Mayan Studies. Enjoy your journey into an ancient knowledge which we are just beginning to comprehend.
